TRIO Student Support Services Peer Mentor (Summer Bridge)

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is dedicated to student success and assisting students in navigating college. SSS is hiring five dedicated students to serve as Peer Mentors for the TRIO Summer Bridge Program (June - July 2024), with the potential to continue with TRIO SSS during the 2024-2025 academic year. TRIO SSS Peer Mentors must be self-motivated, work well independently and as a part of a team, have great social skills, and be comfortable working with a diverse student population.

The TRIO SSS Summer Bridge program is designed to provide first-time freshmen with the necessary skills and support to transition successfully into college at UAA. Summer Bridge students live on campus for five weeks with a cohort of their peers and complete 1-2 college courses with the support of mentors. Mentors will not live on campus.

TRIO SSS Peer mentors help summer bridge students identify and access UAA resources, provide academic support, develop and implement SSS extra-curricular activities, model successful student behaviors, and provide group and individual coaching and support.

Peer Mentors will begin training part-time in June and then transition into working full-time June 24th-August 2nd. There is a possibility of continuing through the school year at a reduced schedule depending on fit and need.

Completed 60 college credits or more
Current TRIO Student Support Services Student or student with a similar background to Summer Bridge students (first-generation college student and/or Pell Eligible)
Have completed a previous Summer Bridge or similar program.
Have previous experience as a tutor, program leader, peer mentor, or similar.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completed a minimum of 30 undergraduate credits, including WRTG A111 and MATH A151 (or their equivalents).
Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus. This is a full-time student worker position from June 24 to August 5, with the possibility of extension into the school year for up to 20 hours per week during the semester depending on fit and need. Pay is $20 per hour.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until April 30th. 

Students are required to be enrolled at UAA for at least 6 credits for the fall semester.
