Summary of Job Duties:

The University of Arkansas Tribal Enterprise Specialist for Indigenous Food and Agriculture Program located within the School of Law is a member of the IFAI Team. The position is responsible for performing outreach activities and engaging stakeholders in programmatic development opportunities and training in areas including but not limited to food safety, agricultural economic development, governance, operational consultation and advice, and federal, public and private resources. Special emphasis on consultation, support, compliance, and capacity development regarding Tribal agribusiness enterprises will be a key component of job responsibilities. The Tribal Enterprise Specialist will work closely with IFAI’s Food Safety Specialist for Food Safety training and outreach efforts for Tribal enterprises and Tribal producers, groups and organizations. The Tribal Enterprise Specialist will also participate in resource development and dissemination for stakeholders of the Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative. Outreach work performed by this position will also include activities to increase the visibility and profile of the Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative’s major national initiatives. This position reports to and is evaluated by the Associate Director of the Initiative and works in collaboration with colleagues throughout the campus. This position may be required to travel long distances by air or vehicle on behalf of the Initiative for various events.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Agriculture or related fields

  • At least two years of experience working in Tribal Agriculture

  • At least two years of experience working in program management

  • Technical assistance experience with Native American populations

  • Exposure to agriculture and agriculture related program development


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Food Safety, or related field

  • At least five years of experience working in Tribal Agriculture

  • Previous experience providing consultation and support to American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian governments and communities on complex issues related to agriculture and food, rural economic development, business development and related areas central to the sustainable economic development

  • Willingness to work as part of a complex team of professionals on issues related to supporting of Native farmers and ranchers

  • Experience in assisting with Native American organizations, tribal governments, and inter-­tribal organizations and providing tribal governments with advice on complex issues

  • At least five years of experience working in program management


Additional Information:

This position is renewable annually based on continued need for the position, availability of funding, and satisfactory job performance. 



Salary Information:


$55,000 - $65,000
