Job Summary
 

Responsible for coordinating student veterans' transition from the military to higher education, serving as the primary contact for both prospective and current student veterans. Provides assistance and advising on admission, re-admission, transfer, financial aid, registration, course selection, and graduation while promoting the personal and academic development of this diverse student population.


Responsibilities
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide academic and personal support to successfully guide prospective students through enrollment and course selection and advise on academic and career goals
2. Work closely with Veterans Certifying Officials, university departments, and the Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits coordinators to ensure veterans experience a smooth transition to KSU
3. Serves as the face-to-face contact for veteran students, dependents, families, faculty and staff, primarily at the Marietta Campus MVS Resource Center
4. Oversees comprehensive Federal and VA work study programs by directing and monitoring the selection, evaluation, and verification of student work study eligibility in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) guidelines and financial aid
5. Assists MVS with the development and implementation of programs, workshops, services, and learning opportunities designed to meet the unique needs of student veterans
6. Supervises VA and federal work-study students and student assistants, and conduct training modules/sessions
7. Assists Director in establishing MVS program mission, goals, and objectives
8. Disseminates relevant information to veterans and dependents regarding changes and updates in veteran benefits and programs
9. Manages daily operations of the Marietta/Kennesaw MVS Resource Centers (i.e., technology, resource library, supplies, budgets, etc.), including marketing efforts and space reservations
10. Assists in development of workshops and programs to enhance student and staff awareness of veteran issues and provide better support to student veterans
11. Coordinates use of the Owl Life student engagement software to create and publicize student programs and events, track student participation, and ensure compliance with divisional and university guidelines
12. Assists with maintaining MVS tracking system and handling monthly/semester reports for the department.
13. Provides support for other divisional priorities and initiatives beyond the scope of department, as requested


Required Qualifications
 

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education
Required Experience
Two (2) years related experience


Preferred Qualifications
 

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) years of honorable U.S. military service or dependent of a veteran with at least two (2) years of honorable U.S. military service
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution

Available to work evenings and weekends for programming with students

Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
KNOWLEDGE
Basic knowledge of VA policies and procedures 
Understanding of the unique experience veterans and active military students bring to campus
Working knowledge of VA educational benefits and policies (Ch. 30, Ch. 1606, Ch. 33, Ch. 35, Ch. 31) 
Working knowledge of higher education pertaining to the VA educational community including active-duty service members, veterans, and dependents 
Working knowledge of state specific educational benefits (GAANG Service Cancelable Loan Program, etc.)
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
