Harry S Truman College is currently seeking a Part-Time Tool Room Attendant to work in our Automotive Technology Department.  The Truman College Automotive Technology Program aspires to be pioneers in linking the diverse students of Chicago to the national and global automotive industry and markets. We aspire to develop highly skilled, responsible, environmentally aware professionals in the automotive field. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced employee to help prepare our automotive technology students for a life changing career. Under supervision, you will support the instructional staff and provide access to tools and equipment upon request. The position is vital to the safety of students, faculty and staff; and may perform minor shop maintenance and monitors inventory.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provides support for instructional staff and assists instructors in lab settings.
  • Performs tool room attendant duties during hours when full-time attendant is unavailable.
  • Monitors and organizes inventory of lab equipment.
  • Maintains a functional, safe and clean environment at all times.
  • Performs diagnosis and minor maintenance on lab equipment.
  • Informs the instructor of any problems promptly.
  • The work hours are Monday - Thursday: 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. 
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a high school diploma or GED required. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in one or more areas is a plus.
  • Must be available to work Monday - Thursday: 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
  • Must have experience with automotive parts inventories and/or the automotive industry.
  • A minimum of six months work experience in an automotive technology or auto body repair environment preferred.
  • Basic understanding of type and purpose of automotive equipment and tools is preferred. 
  • Ability to follow OSHA standards and ensure work will be completed to CCC standards and policies.
  • Work experience in a teaching and team-oriented environment preferred.
  • Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions and to provide proper assistance to the instructor.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to new tasks. 
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to operate related tools and equipment of assigned class.
  • Schedule flexibility required.
