The salary range for this position is $22 per hour depedning upon qualifications and is non-neogtiable.
This position serves as a Graduate Student Assistant on the Technology Infrastructure for Data Exploration (TIDE) project (https://tide.sdsu.edu/ ). TIDE is a multi-campus project to create the first computational core facility focused on meeting the research needs of faculty within the California State University (CSU) system by the National Science Foundation. TIDE is designed to support cutting-edge research in machine learning and AI. The computing architecture is based on powerful graphical processing units, high-performance processors, and ample storage to support research discovery.
The main objective of our collaborative team with project leadership at San Diego State University, CSU San Bernardino, Cal Poly Humboldt, CSU Stanislaus, and the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) is to boost data-intensive research in various scientific fields across our 23 CSU campuses.
This position will work with the project team supporting facilitation and outreach efforts for the project, which could include creating and updating websites, documentation, replying to support requests, facilitating use of TIDE by creating software containers, data workflows scripts, and CI/CD pipelines.
Responsibilities
TIDE Project Coordination (50%)

  • Attend regular project meetings
  • Participate with other TIDE members, working on shared projects, including, but not limited to, creating documentation, sample code, benchmarks
  • Monitor and reply to support requests, assisting with facilitation and access to TIDE
  • Update websites, documentation and training material

Software Development and Analysis (45%)
  • Provide technical assistance porting and running a wide variety of computational sciences software as software containers
  • Software development focus on workloads amenable to running in a Kubernetes-based containerized environment
  • Develop data workflows scripts to support moving data into and out of software containers in languages such as Python
  • Use CI/CD tools to develop workflows to aid in creating, maintaining, securing, and publishing software containers
  • Document software and processes

Qualifications
Minimum Education
  • Equivalent to completion of a bachelor's degree and registration in an SDSU graduate degree program

Minimum Experience
  • None
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using Linux and command line programs
  • Experience with big data and/or machine learning fundamentals
  • Experience with Python
