Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

Provide culturally affirming brief, focused, individual counseling, group therapy and workshops, initial consultations, and crisis assessment to a diverse student population. Provide professional consultation to WSU faculty, staff, and students regarding student behavior, mental health, and academic challenges in order to enhance an inclusive campus climate for student success.

Final candidate(s) will be hired as either a Counselor or Psychologist depending upon their education and experience. This recruitment will be used to fill multiple vacancies within the department.


Required Qualifications:

Requirements for Counselor:

  • Positions require a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or related field and the ability to become independently licensed as a mental health professional in the State of Washington within one (1) year of employment.

  • Ability to become independently licensed as a mental health professional in the State of Washington within 1 year of hire. 

Requirements for Psychologist:

  • A doctoral degree in Psychology, or equivalent including completion of pre-doctoral internship.

  • Eligibility for licensure as a Psychologist in Washington State within one year.

 

Requirements for both Counselor and Psychologist:

  • Excellent generalist clinical skills and experience providing brief, focused counseling services. 

  • Experience working with high-risk individuals (e.g. suicide, eating disorders, substance abuse, PTSD) providing risk assessment and crisis appointments. 

  • Experience and commitment to providing services to diverse student populations including, but not limited to, BIPOC students, LGBTQ+ students, undocumented, migrant, and immigrant students, international students, and veterans. 

  • Experience providing clinical services to young adults in an outpatient setting. 


Preferred Qualifications for all:

  • One year of experience working in a university counseling center (experience obtained while earning degree is acceptable).

  • Experience facilitating psychotherapy groups and workshops.

  • Experience providing outreach and consultation on a university campus.

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary setting.

  • Bilingual or multilingual.

Monthly Salary:
Counselor: $4,942 - $7,569

Psychologist: $6,012 - $9,403

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
