About the Department
The Natural Learning Initiative (NLI, co-founded in 2000) is an interdisciplinary, cross-sector research, education, design programming, and communications lab within the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning (LAEP) at the College of Design, NC State University. The goal of NLI is to create state-of-the-art environments that support healthy human development and a healthy biosphere by engaging children and families with nature in the spaces of daily life, particularly in disadvantaged, diverse communities.
To achieve this goal, NLI tracks trends, research findings, and emerging approaches that guide innovative, equitable, inclusive, nature-based design solutions, combined with education programs and events such as design institutes, conferences, and distance education courses.
The NLI team devises and implements original research studies and post-occupancy evaluations, resulting in findings that inform resources, guidelines, and publications serving as content in NLI education programs.
To ensure success, NLI monitors quality of current programs, maintains detailed activity records, works with advisory panels, administers participant surveys, conducts rigorous product evaluations, and collaborates closely with college and university contract/fiscal/human resource units on oversight of NLI production processes.
Essential Job Duties
As the Program Coordinator for the Natural Learning Initiative (NLI), you will play an important role in supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of various projects and professional development programs. You will work closely with the NLI team, faculty, presenters, clients, and vendors to ensure the smooth delivery of projects and events both in-person and remotely.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Event Coordination:
  • Plan and execute in-person and remote projects, workshops, and events.
  • Handle logistics including scheduling, venue arrangements, and participant registration.
  • Manage event implementation, attendance, and training materials.

Project Management:
  • Maintain up-to-date training materials, documentation, and project database.
  • Assist in tracking project deliverables, deadlines, and grant administration.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders for project delivery and event logistics.
  • Evaluate project effectiveness through surveys and data analysis.
  • Disseminate materials via website, social media, and compile evaluation data for reports.
  • Collaborate with unit leadership and college administration on grant administration and revenue-generating activities

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
Technical Proficiency:
  • Proficiency in database management software, accounting processes and with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of relevant systems: education (public, independent, early childhood, K-12, higher, nonformal), public health, parks and recreation, municipal, county, and/or state governance
  • Basic skills in website development and/or management

Project Management and Analytical:
  • Ability to execute research activities under PI direction, including data gathering, basic data analysis, and application of evaluation results to enhance programs.
  • Experience in program development and management.
  • Consistent, focused attention to detail in research tasks and project execution.

Interpersonal and Communication:
  • Capacity to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Professional, context-sensitive social skills for effective relationship-building with stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in various formats: in-person, online, telephone, one-on-one, and group settings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional experience in academic, non-profit, or children’s organizations working in project assistance, family programs, and/or event, and/or project coordination roles
  • Project management and accounting skills
  • Knowledge of distance education, e-learning LMS software
