Job Description

The Texas A&M Forest Service is seeking a highly motivated fire and emergency services professional who has a passion for wildfire mitigation and works well with minimum supervision. This individual will be part of an integral team that works to deliver statewide mitigation programs to support the Program mission of creating and sustaining Fire Adapted Communities.

The TFS Program Coordinator provides leadership and technical assistance to municipalities, counties and fire departments across the state. This position manages the Community Wildland Protection Plans (CWPP) Program, which encompasses implementing planning strategies for successful wildfire risk reduction and reducing structural ignite-ability, best management practices outreach to local governments and the Community Wildfire Defense Grant. Occasional duties include training and response activities associated with the emergency response mission of the agency and support for additional agency programs. This position will be located in one of the following offices: Conroe, Granbury, Houston, La Grange or Victoria.

 

Responsibilities:

-Manages the CWPP Program and supervises two employees.

-Promotes and markets the benefits of CWPP Program to local governments, professional associations and key state agencies.

-Provides technical assistance and coordination with CWPP Program customers.

-Evaluates CWPP methods. Complete reports and tracks program accomplishments.

-Explore and expand the use of new technology and integrate as necessary into the CWPP Program.

-Be familiar with issues at the state, area and regional levels that impact emergency response. Assist with delivery of all agency programs related to emergency response.

-Manage and account for assigned agency credit cards, agency vehicle log books, activity reports and any assigned agency-owned equipment in accordance with applicable laws, rules, policies, procedures and guidelines.

-Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Required Education : Bachelor’s degree or higher in Natural Resources, Emergency Management, Fire Science, Urban Planning or closely related field.

Preferred Education : Master's degree in Natural Resources, Emergency Management, Fire Science, Urban Planning or closely related field.

Required Experience : Minimum of four (4) years full-time work experience with a recognized wildland fire agency, fire department, emergency management or response organization.

Preferred Experience : Experience in wildfire mitigation. Experience with program development and implementation, teaching and advanced leadership.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required Knowledge : Word processing and spreadsheets.

Preferred Knowledge : Working knowledge of FAC concepts, CWPP, NFPA wildfire standards, ICC wildfire codes.

Required Abilities : Ability to develop and maintain relationships with various cooperators, stakeholders and the general public. Work within NICS/ICS environment at wildfires and all-hazard incidents. Travel, attend and provide required training programs, meetings and other functions statewide. Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Abilities : Coordinate complex wildland fire mitigation programs and working knowledge of GIS applications. Exhibits leadership with partners and employees in assigned program area. Shows superior customer service delivery.

Required Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills.

Preferred Skills: Sound judgement. Great attention to detail.

 

Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:

Required: Valid Class C Texas Drivers license. Certified firefighter or fire inspector through TCFP or SFFMA, or NFPA Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist or NWCG FFT-2 or FEMA EMI professional development course certification.

Preferred: NFPA Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist

 

Other Requirements:

-Response to statewide wildland and all-hazard incidents will be required. Individuals serving in fire or emergency response positions must meet and maintain appropriate qualifications and fitness standards.
