Job Summary
The Honors College seeks candidates for an Academic Advisor position.
The individual selected will advise students on course selection, requirements for selected areas of concentration, and post-college plans to help meet their educational needs and realize student academic goals.
Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:
  • Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
  • Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
  • Assistance with special projects
  • Seasonal work
  • Emergencies

Essential Functions
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Face-to-face advising of students in all matters related to academic and/or curriculum matters pertaining to the Honors College
  • Assisting with and coordinating registration procedures
  • Conducting Camp War Eagle (new student orientation) sessions
  • Evaluating and maintaining student records on a computerized database
  • Teaching Honors Participation Courses
  • Participating in Honors recruiting efforts

The individual in this position will serve as an Academic Advisor in the Honors College and will report to the Assistant Director of Academic Affairs

It is essential that this candidate fosters a team-player attitude and is willing to interact with internal and external constituents including administration, alumni, parents, students, and faculty. The candidate is also expected to exhibit progress in their own professional development.
Minimum Qualifications
Educational Level:
Four-year degree from an accredited institution
Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include the following:
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Prior direct experience in academic advising-related educational counseling
  • Experience in student services at the university level
  • Participation as a student in a university Honors program

Work Hours 30 Hours Per Week, Typical Hours; 7:45 am - 4:45 PM; Typical Workweek Monday-Friday (hours and weekdays may vary to meet 30 hour workweek)
