Position Description
The Applied Mathematics area of the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and the Kempner Institute for the Study of Natural and Artificial Intelligence at Harvard University are seeking applicants for a tenure-track position in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, particularly with interests in deep learning and generative AI. The expected start date is July 1, 2024. The ideal candidate will lead an innovative research program that not only delves deep into a mathematical understanding but also has an empirical and scientific approach towards the subject. We are especially interested in candidates who strive to advance the integration of AI and ML tools into scientific domains including, but not limited to, neuroscience and computational biology.
We are eager to recruit faculty who will help shape the future of scientific research and discovery through the transformative power of computing, AI, and mathematics. Candidates will be welcomed into an interdisciplinary and highly collaborative environment that is committed to advancing the integration of mathematical techniques across various scientific disciplines and deepening our understanding of intelligence. The successful candidate will hold a faculty position in SEAS and be appointed as an Institute Investigator within the Kempner Institute.
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate or terminal degree in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Statistics or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins.
Additional Qualifications
Candidates should have a strong and demonstrated record of theoretical or experimental expertise in Applied Mathematics and Machine Learning or AI, and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising.

7. Names and contact information of 3-5 referees, who will be asked by a system-generated email to upload a letter of recommendation once the candidate’s application has been submitted. Three letters of recommendation are required, and the application is considered complete only when at least three letters have been received. At least one letter must come from someone who has not served as the candidate’s undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral advisor.
