The Psychology Department and Animal Behavior Program at Bucknell University invite applications for an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position in the area of Animal Behavior with a research focus on non-human primates, beginning August, 2024. Bucknell houses three species of socially housed non-human primates that will support the teaching and scholarly research of the successful candidate (capuchin monkeys, hamadryas baboons, and squirrel monkeys). The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher-scholar with a commitment and interest in teaching a diverse population of undergraduates, integrating high-impact educational experiences into courses, and a strong or promising record of scholarship.

The successful candidate will teach five courses per year, develop a strong body of scholarship in their field of specialization related to animal behavior and/or cognition, and participate in service activities at a combination of program, department, college, and university levels, and in the wider academic community. The successful candidate will maintain an active research program that utilizes our on-campus population of non-human primates, generates peer-reviewed publications, and involves mentorship of undergraduates. As part of our faculty and staff non-human primate facility management team, an ideal candidate will demonstrate an interest in future leadership in this area.

As part of the five-course per year teaching load, the successful candidate will be expected to teach from among the following courses: animal behavior, an advanced research methods course, an advanced seminar in the candidate’s area of expertise, and one of the Psychology Department’s introductory courses (Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods in Psychology, or Psychological Statistics). Additionally, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to offer courses that contribute to the College Core Curriculum, such as Integrated Perspectives courses or Foundation Seminars. Opportunity exists to supervise Master's degree students in Psychology and/or Animal Behavior.

A Ph.D. degree in Psychology, Animal Behavior, or closely related field is required by the start of the appointment. We expect to hire at the entry level, but will consider appointment at a senior rank, without tenure, for outstanding candidates with demonstrated success in undergraduate mentorship and a record of leadership consistent with the teacher-scholar model. We welcome candidates who demonstrate excellence in reflective multicultural and inclusive teaching practices, and who display a strong commitment to collaboration and interdisciplinarity.

6) A diversity statement addressing the applicant’s experience with and commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment
7) Three letters of recommendation submitted separately.

This position is a full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt faculty position.
