Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, seeks candidates for tenure-track assistant or associate professor of philosophy, Department of Philosophy, to begin July 2024. 

Required areas of specialization: Epistemology

Required areas of teaching competence: Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Religion

Duties: 

  • Teaching at all levels, from introductory core courses to graduate seminars 
  • Mentoring of undergraduate majors and graduate students (whether by directing PhD or MA theses or serving as a reader on examination committees) 
  • Maintaining a consistent program of research and publication in philosophy 
  • Serving the department, university, and profession (e.g. committee work, shared governance, editorial boards, etc.) 

The successful applicant will: 

  • Hold a PhD degree or equivalent in philosophy at the time of appointment 
  • Show strong evidence of a fruitful and ongoing research agenda 
  • Show strong evidence of effectiveness as a teacher 
  • Demonstrate capacity for effective service 
  • Be able to advance the University’s Catholic Jesuit mission
