Job Description
The primary responsibility is to provide interpreting/transliterating in a variety of situations related to the educational/accessibility needs of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing students campus-wide.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree.
- Experience in interpreting.
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modes used by Deaf individuals.
- Knowledge of RID/NAD Code of Ethics and Deaf Culture (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf/National Association of the Deaf).
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- RID Certification.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Experience interpreting in a college setting.
- Knowledge of Math, English and a wide range of college subjects.
Skills Assessment:
Interpreters are evaluated based on their educational background and previous interpreting experience. A screening simulation to evaluate receptive and expressive skills and ability to render the message accurately is included in this evaluation process.
