Position Summary:
The Clean Energy Research Center (CERC), now known as TECO CERC, within the Department of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering at the University of South Florida (USF), is currently seeking a temporary Research Engineering Technologist to play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing our research solar power plant located on USF Alumni Drive.
This position has become increasingly urgent following the renaming ceremony of the Clean Energy Research Center to TECO CERC. The solar power plant serves as a showcase for esteemed visitors to the USF campus and as a platform for demonstrating the latest advancements in clean energy technologies developed by our students, faculty, and staff.
As a Research Engineering Technologist, you will be responsible for fabricating prototypes of USF-developed technologies, including but not limited to the Scroll Expander and Salt Balls for thermal energy storage, and seamlessly integrating them with the solar power plant. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to design experimental systems that push the boundaries of clean energy research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance, repair, and modification of the solar thermal power plant to ensure optimal functionality.
- Conduct repair and maintenance tasks for other equipment housed at the TECO CERC facility.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot technical issues and implement innovative solutions.
- Assist in the development and execution of experimental plans to evaluate the performance of new technologies.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of technical or engineering experience. Technical or engineering training in a college or vocational school may substitute on a year for year basis for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in using AutoCAD or similar software for equipment and systems design.
- Some experience working in a research laboratory setting is advantageous.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
This job is subject to Foreign Influence Screening: During the 2021 Florida legislative session, House Bill 7017 (“HB 7017”) was passed and later signed into law by Governor DeSantis. The new law modifies a variety of Florida Statutes to address concerns regarding improper foreign influence.
