South Dakota State University’s School of English and Interdisciplinary Studies is offering multiple exciting opportunities for Temporary Instructor positions. These are 9-month, 100% time, benefit eligible term positions that will be offered on a one (1) year basis, but eligible for renewal up to three (3) additional years depending upon the need of the program and performance within the role. These positions are supervised by the Director of the School of English and Interdisciplinary Studies.
 
The School of English and Interdisciplinary Studies at South Dakota State University is a vibrant community of faculty and students dedicated to the teaching and learning of language, literature and culture. The School of English and Interdisciplinary Studies offers the Bachelor of Arts degree with specializations in English , English Education , Interdisciplinary Studies and Writing , as well as the Master of Arts degree in English and the Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, both of which can be earned either on campus or online. In addition, we offer undergraduate minors in English , Film Studies, Professional Writing, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Our faculty specialize in British and American literature, juvenile literature, ethnic literatures, women’s writing, creative writing, rhetoric, composition, professional and technical writing, legal writing, publishing and editing, literary and cultural theory, film studies and peace and conflict studies. With this variety of degree options and encompassing specializations of faculty, our program equips students with the knowledge and capabilities that are sought after by employers in a wide range of fields and industries, including education, business, publishing, public relations, technology, advertising, marketing, sales, law and medicine.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide high-quality teaching, with a 5:5 courseload of a variety of undergraduate courses in English, face-to-face on the SDSU campus in Brookings.
  • Participate, as necessary, in collection of course-based assessment data for student learning outcomes.
  • Communicate in a timely fashion with students, colleagues, staff, and director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s Degree in English or a closely related field completed by date of application.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work as a contributing team member. 
  • Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs;
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational materials and direct effective curriculum. 
  • Previous experience teaching at a University.
  • Sponsorship is not available. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
