The Lukenda School of Business at Lake Superior State University invites applications for a Temporary Instructor position in Accounting. This 9-month position will begin in August 2023.

The successful candidate will be innovative, entrepreneurial, and contribute their academic and professional expertise to students in the Bachelor of Science program in Accounting. The candidate will also teach accounting core classes to all majors in the School, which include business administration, international business, entrepreneurship, cannabis business, economics and finance, marketing and management. Instructional duties will depend on applicant’s areas of expertise, but the School is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, taxation and accounting information systems. Under the direction of the Dean of the College of Innovation and Solutions, the successful candidate will provide course instruction utilizing multiple teaching formats, including the traditional classroom, internship oversight and/or online delivery.

The minimum qualification is a master degree in accounting (or equivalent). The desired qualifications include a Ph.D. in accounting with at least 18 graduate credits in business, experiences that include teaching using multiple modalities and non-academic experience in the field.

Sault Ste. Marie is uniquely situated on Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where we share the international border with Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.  The two cities with a combined population of 100,000 pair the advantages of a larger city with the safety and comfort of a smaller town.

Job Summary/Basic Function:

FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Under the direction of the Dean, provide course instruction to students utilizing multiple teaching formats.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.) Minimum of 24 contract hours of teaching responsibilities per year.
2.) Provide a minimum of 5 hours per week devoted to office hours for the purpose of student advising and support.
3.) Participation in professional and scholarly activities, which can include but is not limited to research and dissemination of knowledge through publication, community, or faculty presentations.
4.) Recruitment of students.
5.) Course and program assessment.
6.) University/community service.
7.) Advising.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master degree in accounting.

Preferred Qualifications:

ABD or Ph.D. in accounting.
Experience instructing from multiple modalities including face-to-face classroom, online, and/or blended.
Non-academic experience in the field.

Physical Demands:

Typical demands of teaching at the university level exist, with the ability to stand for up to 4 hours in a single class session. The ability to manage the physical demands of 12 credits per semester, with the occasional possibility of overload and night classes.
