Position Details
Wesleyan will host a workshop series in Fall 2024 on the topic of Navigating Uncertain Times: Holding Despair and Hope Together in Community and are in search of Temporary Event Assistants to assist with this event.
Climate change, systemic racism, war, economic instability, mass incarceration, and other social, environmental, economic, and political crises have created human societies in crisis. Acknowledgment of loss (or anticipation of loss) and the sorrow that accompanies it and the sense of hopelessness that accompanies these feelings of grief and despair, which in turn can lead to paralysis. In the words of scholar Vanessa Machado de Oliveira Andreotti, “instead of drowning in hopelessness, how can we learn to face our reality with humility and accountability?” To address these questions, we are planning a multi-day workshop series open to the Wesleyan and greater Middletown communities. These workshops will function as a collaborative retreat focused on the challenges of living with feelings of grief and despair and help participants build an action-oriented personal toolbox as we individually and collectively navigate an uncertain world and future.
