Purpose

 Provide semi-skilled and installer helper-level installation of Telecommunications cabling for the University of Texas at Austin.


Responsibilities

  • Install Telecom cabling in new and existing structures in enclosed and cramped spaces or at heights.   Operate mechanical and electrical equipment used in the installation of cabling in close proximity to high-voltage and high-pressure steam pipes.  

  • Complete Reports of time, materials, and other necessary required for the assigned tasks.  Set up and dismantle equipment.  Operate a UT vehicle.


Required Qualifications

High School graduate or GED. Work constructively as a team member. Exercise good safety habits. Regular and punctual attendance.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience installing inside plant communications cabling and wireless access points. Experience in commercial construction work.


Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).


Hourly Rate

$20.00


Working Conditions

  • Attire: Jeans

  • Work shirt polo or button up with long pants (no shorts), closed-toe shoes or work boots, steel toe preferred.


Work Shift

  • Hours per week - 40

  • The work schedule is from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
