Job Summary

Lab Assistant 2

This position assist with general laboratory tasks including medical waste management, filling water containers and water baths, washing glassware, and boxing mailers. Restock supplies, anticipate supply needs, request a re-order when necessary. Receive supplies including chemicals and maintain the accuracy of the inventory system. Provide support for maintenance of laboratory equipment under supervision. Prepare gel media, immunodiffusion plates and clean glassware. Receive patient and research specimens, assess acceptability for testing, and accession orders into the Laboratory Information System Software. Process and pipette veterinary and research serum specimens for test set up. Participate in quality assurance efforts and maintain records of daily activities. Perform temperature checks and maintain logs for laboratory fridges and freezers. General lab cleaning and other miscellaneous tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a laboratory setting. 
  • Knowledge of basic microbiology and biology in a laboratory setting. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to adhere to lab safety protocols, deadlines, and time-schedules.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. or B.A. Degree in the biomedical sciences or biology or related disciplines

Temporary Employment Services provides temporary staffing to UC Davis campus and UC Davis Health in Sacramento. Job Titles vary depending upon the functions of the assignments.

May be required to perform any of the following:

  • Repetitive tasks and lift/carry objects weighing up to 25lbs.
  • Be able to stand for approximately 4-5 hours/day.
  • This position is subject to completion of a Pre-Placement Medical Exam provided by Employee Health Services, at no charge to the applicant.
  • May be subject to medical surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and regulations and University Policy.
  • Must complete mandatory training within 15 days of hire date.
  • A valid CA Driver’s license may be required.
  • Participation in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System may be required.
  • Perform tasks that require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, and gloves, etc.
  • Personally responsible for following safety procedures and guidelines.
  • May work around loud noise, dust, tight confined areas, etc.
  • May work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present.
  • May work occasional overtime to meet operational deadlines.
