Job Summary | This recruitment will be used to fill two full-time Temporary Biological Sciences Research Technician 1 positions for the Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center – Burns at Oregon State University (OSU). These positions will be located in Burns, Oregon. This recruitment will be used to fill two openings for bio science tech focused on collecting valuable scientific data for projects in the remote Oregon desert. |

What We Require | Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science); OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. |
What You Will Need | Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. Ability to carry out tasks independently and as part of a team. Experience (or ability to learn) with driving 4WD vehicles and operating GPS units in remote work settings. Ability to physically hike 5 miles or more a day and perform job duties from 15°-105° F in desert environments. Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50lbs. Ability to learn quickly and collect extremely accurate data efficiently. This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030. |
What We Would Like You to Have | Courses/experience in wildlife data collection and sampling methods. Experience with auditory songbird point count surveys, including the id of western bird species by sound and sight. Experience living or working in rural/remote locations, preferred conducting field work in rough terrain. Demonstrated experience/training with ATVs, UTVs, 4WD vehicles, manual transmissions, GPS units and map apps. General knowledge of computers and skills for use of word processing and data entry. Well organized, self-motivated and able to perform duties independent of direct supervision. |
Working Conditions / Work Schedule | This will primarily be a field-based job involving irregular work hours and/or days.This position requires working in isolated areas without internet or reliable cell coverage and with a small group of people. This position may require camping and long hours of driving and potentially hiking in uneven/rugged terrain. |
