Work Schedule
8:00 am – 5:00 pm; Monday – Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.
Primary Purpose of Position
Incumbent serves as the Technology Transfer Specialist for the Office of Research Commercialization and Development, recognizing and appropriately handling patent documents and attorney correspondences and also ensuring compliance with confidentiality agreements.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Essential Job Duties
Ability to independently establish expectations and clear directions for a defined program area – specifically, the implementation of and compliance with the procedures for reporting inventions that result from federal funding as required under the Bayh-Dole Act of 1980.
Drafts and recommends new procedures and then documents them in ORCD’s SOPs. Ability to articulate the purposes of various programs (such as implementing and maintaining NDAs) and to adapt processes, procedures, and activities to meet those programs’ needs.
Recommends, develops, and implements new approaches to improving records and information management for tracking Data Use Agreements.
Explains importance of disclosure compliance, purpose and requirements of invention reports; communicates complex information to third parties; liaison with patent attorneys.
Explains activities of the Office of Research Commercialization and Development to University personnel, third parties, such as potential licensees; builds strong working relationship with internal and external constituents.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
  • Successful completion of AUTM TOOLS course; patent administration course;
  • five years experience in Technology Transfer Office operation;
  • Advanced training in specialized software used by Technology Transfer Offices in University systems domestically and internationally;
  • working knowledge of international patent law.
