Position Summary/Purpose of Position: | The Technology Shop Technician provides assistance to the Technology Shop for day to day operations of the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center (The Clarice). The Technology Shop Technician is responsible for assisting in the execution of events as assigned. The Technology Shop Technician supervises volunteers, paid/unpaid student personnel, as well as, casual labor crew. The Technology Shop Technician also provides instruction and training in lighting, audio, projection and streaming systems (multimedia) to students. The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center is an integrated arts laboratory where artists, arts scholars and arts administrators collaborate to spark inspiration and build the future of the arts. As an intellectually curious and socially conscious community, we leverage creativity, scholarship, innovation and community engagement across the arts to foster expression, generate curiosity and inspire a greater good. The Clarice is part of the performing arts at Maryland community, which also includes the School of Music, the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies, the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library and Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission. |
Minimum Qualifications: | EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in Multimedia Technology or related field. EXPERIENCE: One year in the operation and maintenance of audio-visual or multimedia equipment. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
OTHER: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. |

Physical Demands | - Must be able to work from ladders, man lifts and scaffolding; to work from catwalk heights of 60’. - Must be able to work while standing for long periods. - Must be able to lift and manipulate objects up to 50 pounds. - Must be able to manipulate equipment, tools, supplies and/or exert force up to 50 pounds. - Must be able to work in hazardous environments, confined spaces, and to wear and work in personal protective equipment. |
