  Job Summary
The Technology Operations Manager is responsible for envisioning and leading school discussions on new technology purchases and key facility renovations, as well as serving as adviser in the Student Media Center. The Operations Manager is in charge of the School of Media and Communication’s multi-million-dollar technology infrastructure and leads staff and faculty in identifying, purchasing, and installing new equipment and software, as well as regularly evaluating school needs and recommending improvements. The technology manager ensures the school’s computer laboratories, studios, and associated equipment are available and functional for students and faculty as they pursue their academic careers, works with students in the Student Media Center, and trains staff and faculty on new equipment and software.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  •   Oversees the check-out/check-in of equipment and facilities for students, faculty, and student staff. Performs and/or supervises all necessary functions pertaining to equipment inventory, maintenance, and reservation.
  • Hires, oversees and trains student workers assigned to studio, production, and equipment room duties. Advises at least one of the divisions in the Student Media Center, chairs the school’s Technology Committee, and works with faculty across the school on their technology needs.
  • May teach at least one course per semester in the undergrad curriculum, depending on needs and qualifications.
  • Assesses software needs and maintenance, as well as investigates holistically the technology needs of Student Media and the school curriculum, and trains faculty, staff, and students on equipment, procedures, and policies.
  • Supervise and maintain school studio, computer laboratory, and Student Media facilities, including video/audio production suites, editing bays, and production studio(s). Supervises maintenance and replacement needs of all mobile technology, including audio, still, and video equipment.
  • Serves as the school’s inventory manager, including performing the annual audit and completing other paperwork as needed.
  • Administers building swipe card security system, serves as building coordinator.
  • Works with school finance coordinator to oversee and manage course fee budget.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications
      Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the media, technology, marketing or related information field. At least one year in a media-related field.
      
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Ability to network computers (PC and Mac) in a traditional laboratory/classroom environment.
    • Ability to manage, install and manipulate standard software used in the creative media fields, including the Adobe Creative Suite, ProTools, and other standard studio software.
    •  Ability to supervise young staff members.
    •  Ability to compile strategic plans for the long-term development of technology and facilities, in conjunction with other schools, the college, and the university.
    •  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret most complex documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to become familiar with a variety of audio, visual, and general studio equipment.
    •  Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
    •  Ability to engage students and to create and enhance their connection to the institution and each other.
    •  Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse group of people.
    •  Demonstrates the ability to deliver accurate, concise, and quality communication (verbal and written) in a timely manner and provide quality feedback.

    Preferred Qualifications  

    Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. Supervisory experience. Adobe Professional Certification. Other applicable software certifications.
