Position AnnouncementUtah Valley University is seeking a Technician! The Facilities Service Technicians perform specialized custodial care and general building maintenance to maximize a healthy, safe, pleasant, and functional environment
The schedule is from 4:30pm - 1:15am, Monday - Friday.
Summary of ResponsibilitiesPerforms specialized custodial duties, i.e., cleans, refinishes, and maintains a variety of floor coverings and surfaces, cleans restroom floors, pest control, and other specialized tasks as assigned. Assists in maintaining adequate stock of cleaning supplies, inventory, and spaces. Organizes closets and storage areas to stock parts and supplies.
Performs various preventative and maintenance repairs to facilities, such as lights, toilets, walls, blinds, fixtures, etc., to ensure buildings and/or equipment are in proper operating condition. Performs various maintenance trades work requiring the application of trade skills, codes, and standard trade practices. Inspects assigned buildings, fixtures, machines, and appliances as necessary. Maintains and repairs various types of furniture, fabric surfaces, and upholstery. Performs minor installation, repair, and replacement of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating, and cooling systems as needed; reports any complex or unusual problems to the supervisor
Assembles and disassembles furniture as requested. Performs minor furniture moves across campus. Installs/hangs various office accessories.
Maintains custodial equipment and vehicles: Performs preventative and repair maintenance on equipment such as buffers, vacuums, scrubbers, burnishers, appliances, etc. Performs preventative and operating maintenance on vehicles, i.e., fueling, monitoring tire pressure, oil and coolant levels, staff of batteries, and other components as necessary.
Assists with general custodial coverage as needed. Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma from a standard high school or the equivalent and any combination of post-high school education and/or directly related full-time experience to the summary of duties totaling one year is required.
Knowledge, Skill, and AbilitiesKnowledge
- Knowledge of electrical and electronic systems maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of the operation and repair of various types of motors.
- Knowledge of basic hand tools and equipment used in routine building maintenance.
- Knowledge of ADA standards for proper mounting of equipment and accessories.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and standards.
- Knowledge of all floor types, such as terrazzo, cement, wood, vinyl, ceramic tile, carpet fibers, weaves, and backings.
- Knowledge of waxes/polishes, acids, other chemicals, buffers, extractors, vacuums, and scrubbers.
- Knowledge of basic pest control.
- Knowledge of safe work practices.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools common to trade.
- Must have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- Must be service oriented; actively seeks opportunities to help others.
- Skills in operating personal computers, including the accompanying CMMS software and Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to learn and care for an assigned area and equipment.
- Ability to read electronic and mechanical schematics and diagrams.
- Ability to operate saws, grinders, drills, forklifts, buffers, and various hand tools.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment, such as vacuums, carpet extractors, burnishers, etc.
- Ability to understand chemical cleaning application and methods.
- Ability to identify maintenance problems that need attention and repair.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ability to work well under pressure; meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines
