Bachelor's degree with four (4) years related experience along with a Technologist level Certification from either the American society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI). Must fulfill overall qualifications as a general supervisor under Clinical Laboratory Improvement.
Technical Supervisor, Laboratory Services supervises the day to day operations of a Clinical Laboratory Division or major function of a Clinical Laboratory. Possesses the administrative and technical skills to supervise personnel and coordinate operations, organize and improve workflow for the division, and communicate with staff, management, and senior leadership.
The salary range for this position is from $69,600 to $111,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
This is a pay Band Code PC22.
Specific Job Related Duties
Coordinates the daily operations and workload activities for the division.
Responsible for recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, supervision, evaluation, disciplinary action and/or termination process of divisional employees.
Responsible for compliance with regulatory accreditation standards.
Responsible for quality control and quality metrics.
Compiles workload and budget reports as directed.
Reviews, revises, and updates policies and procedures in accordance with required regulatory, departmental, and university standards.
Reviews and evaluates quality of reported test results, quality control and equipment maintenance procedures, proficiency testing and verifies appropriate documentation is maintained and corrective actions are implemented as necessary.
Assists in the development, evaluation, or implementation of all new procedures, reagents, systems, and instruments for use in the division. Coordinates development of written procedures, training of personnel, and documentation of competency prior to reporting patient results. Significant changes to existing procedures require a similar process.
Administers personnel policies including, but not limited to: scheduling time and attendance, discipline and dismissal, performance evaluations, training and competency for division personnel.
Coordinates, evaluates, and verifies documentation of orientation, training, supervision, and mentoring of new employees, students, and Pathology Residents and fellows as appropriate for their role in the laboratory.
Coordinates supply needs within the division.
Coordinates continuing education programs and verifies documentation for departmental and personnel records.
Participates in the establishment and implementation of the quality assurance and continuous process improvement program including quality monitors, incident reports, corrective actions, and documentation.
Coordinates review and revision of the Laboratory Survival Guide.
Coordinates event reporting for the division.
Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures.
Maintains proficiency and competency in performance for the testing menu of the division or section.
Communicates pertinent information to staff members, management, medical directors, and other divisions.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
Adheres to all safety protocols in each laboratory area.
