Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Technical Project Manager is responsible for the execution of projects and contributes to business development for the McNair Center. This position serves as the marketing lead for McNair, interacts with the Department of Commerce, SCRA, and Congressional Delegations, arranges and guides tours in McNair, and contributes to road mapping future research.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field, and 4 years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. Familiarity with configuring or using advanced manufacturing or related equipment.
U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, and foreign nationals eligible for International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) licensure are eligible to apply and must comply with ITAR and CUI project requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field. Lean Six Stigma Greenbelt and Business Analytics certifications. Experience operating advanced manufacturing equipment in a relevant environment. Experience with project management, advanced composites manufacturing, business development and capability of working on DOD contracts.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Understanding of advanced manufacturing equipment, real time data acquisition, computing and operating equipment. Understanding the safety implications of equipment usage.
  • Excellent analytical skills, and ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects, to organize and prioritize tasks, make critical decisions, and to operate efficiently in a research environment with rapidly evolving and sometimes-competing needs.
  • Familiarity with safety requirements and regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken forms, using language appropriate to the technical and also to the non-technical domain. Ability to interact independently with industrial and federal/legislative entities on matters of significance
  • Proficient with general computing skills, and use of MS Office software including MS Project.
  • Knowledge of stakeholder needs, gathering requirements, and defining scope

COMPOSITE MATERIALS MANUFACTURING AND COORDINATION for PURCHASING of MAJOR EQUIPMENT (up to $4 million):Coordinate composite materials manufacturing and process selection. Serve as the primary point of contact for major equipment purchases and coordinate with purchasing.

CONTRIBUTE TO BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, BUDGET MANAGEMENT AND FINANCIAL ANALYSIS FOR THE MCNAIR CENTER: Work with faculty, post-doctoral researchers, graduate students and undergraduate students to select and purchase equipment while offering technical guidance or advice as appropriate. Serve as business development lead at the McNair Center. Contribute to budget management and financial analysis of the McNair Center.

PREAWARD PROPOSAL DRAFTING FOR SAM SUBMISSIONS and CONTRIBUTE TO POST AWARD OVERSIGHT:Assist researchers in the planning, design, and execution of experiments. Plan and recommend improvements to laboratory facilities and assist in preparation of budgets and proposals related to the laboratory. Assist with post award oversight of grants and contracts.
