Job Summary

Oversees animal care and assists veterinarians and other technicians in conducting complex procedures and transplant procedures. Assesses patients, develops radiographs, and performs complex laboratory procedures and testing to assist in diagnosis and treatment. Dispenses and administers medications as directed, ensures adherence to all federal and state health laws, and maintains sanitization. Distributes work to other technicians and serves as area coordinator and conducts administrative duties.


Essential Functions 

•Oversees animal care and assists veterinarians and other technicians in conducting complex procedures. Assists, as directed, with transplant procedures, which includes post-operative care, blood draws, running anesthesia, placing catheters, and cell infusion. 
 
•Assesses patients by taking vital signs, samples, and recording their medical history; develops radiographs and X-rays. 
 
•Follows proper protocols and ensures adherence to federal and state animal health laws and regulations, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Reports regulatory issues to senior staff. 
 
•Collects specimens and performs complex laboratory procedures and tests in hematology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems. 
 
•Dispenses and administers medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments as prescribed and directed by the veterinarian. 
 
•Cleans and sanitizes equipment, patient care areas, and operating or examination rooms. 
 
•Distributes work and trains other Veterinary Technicians as directed. 
 
•Serves as area coordinator and conducts administrative duties such as scheduling procedures, archiving/filing documents, and ordering/monitoring inventory. 


Physical Effort 

Position can be labor intensive. Will be required to handle large animals.
