Position Description

In the summer and fall of 2024, we will have several Teaching Associate positions available as we open the Center for Behavioral Health and Learning on the campus of UWMC-Northwest.

There are currently (6) full-time (0.5-1.0 FTE) faculty positions available, with additional openings likely available in the late summer of 2024. Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

University of Washington Medical Center-Northwest (UWMC-NW) is seeking certified physician assistants (PA-C) or dual-certified (Primary Care and Psychiatry), advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNP) to provide mental health evaluation and management to Psychiatric patients. All clinical responsibilities are performed within the scope of practice, institutional privileges and with the collaboration of physician colleagues. The ideal candidate would work full time however, this may be flexible for the right candidate.

UWMC Center for Behavioral Health and Learning

The University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC), with funding from the Washington State Legislature, is building a new Center for Behavioral Health and Learning on the campus of UWMC-Northwest. This $250m facility will house 75 psychiatry beds for patients on long-term civil commitment status, a 25-bed geriatric psychiatry unit, 50 medical / surgical beds to serve patients with medical / surgical and behavioral health needs, and a state-of-the-art Neuromodulation Center. The facility was designed to include teaching and team areas to support the education of a wide variety of trainees from various healthcare specialties.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The ARNP/PA-C at UWMC-NW functions within their scope of practice and collaborates effectively with other disciplines to provide state-of-the-art patient and family-centered mental health care.

* Training and experience in the delivery of mental health care including medication management.

* Excellent communication and clinical skills necessary to ensure optimum patient care outcomes in a complex care environment.

* Respectful and ethical in their interactions with staff and patients alike

* Skilled clinicians, providing evidence-based diagnosis and management of the acute, symptomatic, and supportive care needs of patients with mental health needs.

* Educator to patients, clinicians, and staff - able to effectively communicate information about mental health processes, treatments, and management.

Responsibilities:

* Diagnose patients with mental illnesses; develop and implement patient treatment plans.

* Works closely with psychiatrists and psychologists on the team.

* Collaborates and consults with other disciplines and services to ensure safe, effective, and timely treatment as well as continuity of patient care. Care will be coordinated in a multidisciplinary fashion with collaborating services which may include:

* Participates in patient rounds, conferences and committees.

* Actively participates in the development and maintenance of patient management algorithms and standardized orders.

* Documents patient care data in accordance with UWMC-NW and UWP policies

* Performs assessments of patients' and caregivers' knowledge, attitudes, and actions around the mental health diagnosis and treatment issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

* 2 years of experience in a mental health setting

* Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Psychiatry

* PA requirements: minimum of 2 years of experience in a mental health setting required. Prefer candidates with CAQ in Psychiatry

* ARNP requirements: minimum of 2 years of experience in a mental health setting and completion of a graduate certificate in Psychiatry/Mental Health NP (or equivalent) required.

* Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program required.

* Washington state licensure required

* DEA licensure required within 30 days of privileging.

* EMR experience required; prefer experience with Epic.

* Strong team player with a can-do attitude is a must! Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team is essential.

Salary

The base salary range for this position will be: $9,167 - $16,167 per month ($110,000 - $194,000 annually) commensurate with years of experience as a licensed ARNP or PA , or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Other compensation associated with this position may include payments for vacancy coverage or premiums for factors such as acuity, nights, and call should they apply to service. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

• Current and valid state Registered Nurse Licensure for ARNP or Physician Assistant licensure for PA-C
• Graduate Degree from and accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or accredited Physician Assistant Program
• Nationally certified ARNP/PA with DEA
