Position Details:


Summary of Duties:

The successful applicant is expected to:

  • Teach food chemistry, product development and other courses within their area of expertise in-person and online as needed by the SFS.

  • Recruit, mentor, and advise undergraduate and graduate students in the SFS.

  • Participate in service activities (i.e., outreach, recruiting and other) of the SFS and CAHNRS.

  • Participate in program assessment and provide evidence of the quality of learning and educational outcomes.

  • Serve on departmental committees in the SFS mainly focused on instruction.

  • Attend short courses and/or conferences concerned with teaching.

  • Meet diverse student needs by creating an inclusive and inviting environment for all students.

  • Assume administrative responsibilities for the online certificate program.

  • Develop and teach courses in the online certificate program.

  • Grow the online certificate program.

Required Qualifications:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Chemistry or related field.

  • Expertise in general food science area.  

  • Experience in teaching food science related courses.

  • Demonstrated oral and written English communication skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies in a global environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork to work collaboratively, independently, and harmoniously with other people.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in food chemistry and product development.

  • A record of peer-reviewed publications or other scholarship in food science research.

  • Experience in teaching (course principal instructor) and course development.

  • Postdoctoral or equivalent research and teaching, or previous food industry experience.

Annual Salary:

$65,000.00 - $80,000.00

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
