The Department of Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh (Oakland campus) invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor position, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2024. This position is on a 9-month basis, is outside of the tenure stream, and will require administrative and budgetary approval.  Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Minimum qualifications: Applicants should have earned a minimum of a doctoral degree in an appropriate discipline from an accredited university.

Preferred qualifications:  Research experience, especially in physical chemistry and postdoc experience.

Job description: The normal teaching duties will consist of teaching 18 credit hours over the academic year. In the Chemistry department, this level of teaching load typically corresponds to 4 large enrollment courses, or 6 low enrollment courses, or 8 lab sections. With the department’s permission, credit on a course-equivalent basis can be applied toward this total for student advising and other non-teaching activities. In addition to teaching, the candidate will also serve as the coordinator for the Chemistry department’s research programs. Typical duties include coordinating undergraduate research programs during the academic year and the summer, developing and conducting research-related workshops, and collaborating with research faculty on undergraduate research. The candidate will also serve on departmental and university committees to further our academic mission.
