Requirements
Georgetown University in Qatar is seeking qualified Teaching Assistants (TA) for our intensive Arabic language courses for the Fall 2024 semester. We offer two tracks: Arabic as a second language and Arabic as a heritage language. The Arabic TA program will be administered by the Office of Academic Services in conjunction with the Arabic Language Program Director.
Position Details:
- 3 TA positions available
- 15-29 hours per week per position
- Courses:
- Modern Standard Arabic 1 (ARAB 1011) - 2 sections
- Modern Standard Arabic 2 (ARAB 1111) - 1 section
- Modern Standard Arabic 3 (ARAB 2216) - 1 section
- Arabic as a Heritage Language 1 (ARAB 1020) - 1 section
Responsibilities:
- Attend classes and assist with in-class activities
- Meet with professor for class preparation and planning
- Grade daily homework and assignments
- Prepare and deliver 1-hour recitation/review session every Thursday
- Hold office hours
Requirements:
- Master's degree (completed or in progress) in Arabic Language and Literature, Arabic Applied Linguistics, or a related field
- Experience teaching university-level Modern Standard Arabic to native and non-native speakers preferred
- Ability to contribute to and thrive in a diverse, multicultural, and co-educational setting
- Capability to work independently and in groups
- Effective communication skills to interact professionally with members of the campus community
- Availability to work five days a week
Note: As this position is based in Qatar and offers no relocation assistance, GU-Q is looking for locally based candidates only. This is a part-time, temporary, and non-sponsored position that requires all applicants to already have the necessary sponsorship to live and work in Qatar.
