Job Summary
This is a part-time (60%) and one year limited term position that will be located in Talladega, AL. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding.
The Agent Assistant will be responsible for implementing and coordinating the goals and objectives of the 4-H Youth program for the Talladega County Extension Office. The Agent Assistant will also assist in preparing curriculum, implementing youth related programs and working directly with youth activities. The Agent Assistant will follow and adapt when necessary, specific lesson plans designed to broaden youth social and cognitive skills through hands-on activities. Must have good organizational skills to efficiently and accurately maintain records of youth education sessions and progress, as well as follow the guidelines and policies of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. The Agent Assistant will assist and/or work with the County Extension Coordinator and 4-H Regional Extension Agent in activities that benefit the youth of the counties.
EXTENSION: The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is the outreach organization for the land grant mission of Alabama A&M University and Auburn University. Its educational programs grow from these two land grant university campuses to serve the people of Alabama. Science-based educational programs are delivered that enable people to improve their quality of life and economic well-being. Essential Functions
  • Create 4-H publications such as fliers and newsletters; keep 4- Hers informed about upcoming events and deadlines; 4-H enrollment data entry; develop day camp opportunities; work with the County 4-H Team when planning programs and events; assist the 4-H Foundation Regional Extension Agent or County Extension Coordinator during 4-H programs; chaperone regional 4-H events as-needed, and lead 4-H in-school club meetings and programs.
  • The Agent Assistant will also create social media posts to promote 4-H programs and may help create educational videos for virtual programs.
  • The Agent Assistant will follow and adapt research-based lesson plans designed to broaden youth social and cognitive skills through hands-on activities.
  • The Agent Assistant serves as a member of the County 4-H Centennial Youth Initiative Team and assists with County 4-H and Extension activities.
  • Must have good organizational skills to efficiently and accurately maintain records of youth educational sessions and progress, as well as follow the guidelines and policies of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES).
  • Travel to program sites is reimbursed monthly in accordance with Auburn University & ACES policies and procedures.
  • The successful applicant must have a demonstrated interest in working with youth ages 9-19 concerning a variety of issues.
  • Must have a sincere interest in working with volunteers and professional staff in an educational setting, and the ability to recruit, train and motivate volunteers while nurturing positive self esteem, decision-making and leadership skills; ability to follow instructions related to work with minimum supervision from professional staff.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and professionally with families and co-workers; must have a willingness to become familiar with and work within the ACES philosophy and guidelines.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation. Effective communication and human relations skills; a working knowledge in operating a personal computer (i.e. software programs including Microsoft Word and Access) are all critical.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Level I High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience.
Level II High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
