Job Summary
The central Office of Information Technology at Auburn University is seeking applicants for the role of Infrastructure Systems Engineer. This position assists in the administration of diverse private and public cloud-based applications. The Infrastructure Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in the management and enhancement of Auburn’s information technology infrastructure. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative and innovative environment, contributing to the growth and success of our institution.
Working onsite is a requirement of the job. May work up to 2 days hybrid remote in local area with supervisor’s approval.

Essential Functions
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide application management and administration for private and public cloud-hosted applications.
  • Use industry-standard monitoring tools to identify and remediate security vulnerabilities on an ongoing basis.
  • Monitor and report on system security and utilization.
  • Investigate infrastructure or application performance problems.
  • Perform application installation, maintenance, training, and support as required.
  • Document and maintain established backup and disaster recovery processes and procedures.

In addition, this position will work closely with both IT personnel and end-users from a number of different disciplines and backgrounds. Performs on-call support during evenings, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.

Associate Systems Engineer (MA45):
High school diploma and 8 years of relevant experience OR
Associate’s degree and 4 years of experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 0 years of experience.
Typical starting salaries for this level is between $54,300 to $63,500

Systems Engineer (MA46):
High school diploma and 11 years of relevant experience OR
Associate’s degree and 7 years of experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience.
Typical starting salaries for this level is between$68,200 to $81,100

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications


Minimum Skills and Abilities
  • Experience administering distributed computer systems, preferably in a university setting. Candidates for this position must have demonstrated experience and success working both in a collaborative team environment. 
  • This position requires excellent interpersonal communication skills. Candidates must also be skilled at organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple concurrent tasks and/or projects.
Minimum Technology Skills
  • Experience with application and infrastructure administration.
  • Experience with server administration in VMware, Azure, or other private/public-cloud platforms.
  • Experience providing technical assistance to customers in support of enterprise systems and applications.

  • Desired qualifications for this position include an earned degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited institution. 
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages.
  • Experience managing third-party applications in a complex environment.
  • Experience with infrastructure administration, data storage, and data management.
  • Experience proactively monitoring server infrastructure for capacity, utilization, and performance thresholds.
  • Experience with Qlik Sense or other DW/BI products.
