This is a full-time benefits-eligible position. Position Purpose
  • Plan, install, document, maintain, and support Windows and/or Linux based servers
  • Advanced understanding and application of authentication, routing, switching, security, application, installation, etc.
  • Research, plan, implement, document and apply system patches and updates to include approve processes and methods
  • Troubleshoot and resolve advanced and complex network related issues and problems
  • Maintain and document server adds, changes, and deletes from server inventory list
  • Ability to troubleshoot advanced server hardware and software related issues and problems
  • Define, design, and engineer backup methodologies to include data retention and archival methods and processes
  • Conduct appropriate backup and recovery procedures of servers, operating systems, data, and tape libraries
  • Conduct IP management for class B networks following best practices
  • Design, engineer, develop, install, maintain, support, and troubleshoot serer virtualization
  • Design, engineer, install, document, maintain, and support storage arrays
  • Define and administer advanced security practices
  • Design, engineer, implement, maintain complex multi-system solutions
  • Define, develop, create, and apply scripts to meet defined needs
  • Advanced understanding of secure authentication (ADS, LDAP, etc.)
  • Conduct technical leadership and project management activities
  • Monitor, evaluate, and implement configuration changes to operating system efficiency
  • Define, develop, and document processes and procedures
  • Cross train staff on specific systems, applications, processes, and procedures
  • Effectively communicate with Office of Technology staff, campus users, and vendors
  • Engineer, define, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot server firewalls and rules

Bachelor’s degree in a technology field is required and a Master’s is preferred.

Experience
  • Seven years applied experience planning, installing, documenting, maintaining, supporting, troubleshooting Windows and/or Linux operating systems
  • Five years practical experience and knowledge in directory services, switching, routing, and server / network security
  • Experience in technical environment of supporting servers on larger networks with multiple servers and users
  • Project management experience with technical projects
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams and staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, team members, peers, vendors, and constituents of campus community
  • Familiarity and understanding of system analysis procedures and techniques
  • Ability to interpret and apply broad regulatory standards and technical specifications to assignments
  • Demonstrated experience performing systems design and engineering tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to research, identify, troubleshoot, and correct server and system problems using system utilities and diagnostic tools in timely capacity
  • Availability for evening, weekend, and on-call work
  • Experience with load balancing and proxy servers such as Netscalar and IPVS
  • Certification in server administration (preferred)
  • Some direct or indirect staff supervision or management (preferred)
  • MCSE or equivalent experience (preferred)
  • Security training – SANS (preferred)
