Job Summary:

USF Sustainability Specialists collaborate with university stakeholders and external organizations to design, implement, and support campus initiatives that affect awareness and behavior change within the USF community to foster a more environmentally and socially responsible university.

USF Sustainability Specialists collaborate with university stakeholders and external organizations to design, implement, and support campus initiatives that affect awareness and behavior change within the USF community to foster a more environmentally and socially responsible university.

Sustainability Specialists will acquire and utilize knowledge, skills, and experience within the following areas:

  • Climate & environmental justice
  • Energy efficiency & conservation
  • Water efficiency & conservation
  • Waste minimization & diversion

Sustainability Specialists will work under the supervision of the Office of Sustainability and will report directly to the Sustainability Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Support ongoing campus sustainability peer education initiatives
  • Create and implement new sustainability initiatives and topical projects
  • Create monthly original content for campus sustainability blog
  • Organize, promote, and participate in annual campus sustainability events, including, but not limited to: Campus Sustainability Month, Global Climate Change Week, Campus Race to Zero Waste, and Earth Day
  • Table at other campus events to promote campus sustainability initiatives 
  • Create print and digital content for social media, event promotions & infographics as needed
  • Attend mandatory trainings and workshops
  • Conduct research and data collection as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a strong passion for environmental stewardship and environmental justice
  • Must be a reliable and proactive self-starter
  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills
  • Must exhibit careful attention to detail
  • Must be available to work 10-15 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 or more years of student leadership or peer education experience
  • 1 or more years of co-curricular or extracurricular experience in a sustainability related field
  • Proficiency with Canva
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (e.g., Google Calendar, Docs, Forms, Sheets, Slides)
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop
  • Can commit to working occasional evenings and weekends
