ROLE of the POSITION

The UNLV Delivery Services Department is hiring a Supply Technician 2, to oversee the day-to-day operations and supervision of the Shipping & Receiving department.  The incumbent will ensure shipments destined for UNLV are received, inspected, and distributed to the correct end recipient or department.  This position will make independent decisions to ensure that service levels are met daily, and that processes and procedures are followed. The Supply Tech series covers a wide range of duties that include but aren't limited to; loading and unloading freight trucks and other carrier vehicles, inspect and record all shipments, route and deliver shipments to departments on campus, process outbound shipments, provide shipping instructions to campus customers, generate and review freight quotes, and providing exemplary services to the campus community. 

Supervisory Duties:

  • Recruit for open Shipping & Receiving positions when vacancies are available.

  • Train Shipping & Receiving staff to ensure safe completion of deliveries and assigned tasks.  

  • Complete annual performance reviews.

  • Offer and promote employee and staff development opportunities.

  • Ensure all customer requests and deliveries are completed within service levels.

  • Assign tasks, set goals and ensure assignments are completed in a timely manner.

  • Develop and maintain Work Performance Standards according to NSHE standards.

  • Contribute to the creation, documentation and updating of department training materials, policies and procedures.

Operational Duties:

  • Respond to customer inquiries via email, phone, in person, and ticketing systems according to Business Affairs standards. 

  • Maintain a daily Shipping & Receiving schedule to ensure warehouse coverage and all customer requests and deliveries are completed within service levels.

  • Ensure the safe receipt, inspection and identification of all incoming shipments to Campus.

  • Identify and resolve delivery and shipping issues.

  • Safely operate tools and equipment to relocate a wide variety of goods, equipment, freight and packages across Campus.

The incumbent will use a wide variety of material handling equipment to complete assigned tasks. Some of the equipment used by a Supply Tech include; pallet jacks, flatbed carts, furniture dollies, Forklifts, and hand trucks.

Additional responsibilities include; assisting Property Control with the receipt, tagging, and distribution of  assets to Campus, assisting customers with preparing UNLV Surplus and Moving Services Requests, and observing and upholding all federal, state, and NSHE regulations and policies. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of stocking, storeroom or warehouse experience which included purchasing a variety of supplies, equipment and materials, maintaining inventory records, inventory storage and handling, and shipping and receiving materials and equipment; OR one year of experience as a Supply Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

This position will require a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Forklift certification

  • Hazardous Materials shipping & handling experience

  • Warehouse management experience

  • Strong customer services skills

  • Familiarity with asset management, inventory, or package tracking software

SALARY 

Grade 27 Step 1, salary $41,634.72. "Step" means the number assigned by the Division of Human Resource Management to identify a specific rate of pay within a grade. Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
