ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Student Success division at the University of South Florida, is comprised of 60 departments, providing students with academic support, engagement opportunities, health & wellness services and enhancement of the educational experience. The Academic Success Center (ASC) is part of Undergraduate Studies and is a partner in the USF Tampa Library Learning Commons. Offering a variety of academic support services, the mission of the department is to strengthen students' ability to learn effectively and efficiently. This is accomplished through learning center best practices that are content centered and seek to understand the role of tutoring and writing support at USF and adapt to meet the diverse needs of students, faculty, and staff.
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Student Instruction Program Coordinator supports the Office of Undergraduate Studies and university-wide initiatives connected to Florida Board of Governors performance-based metrics on academic progress rate, transfer retention, and graduation rates. This position works in direct partnership with faculty and staff of various programs and departments to create learning experiences in support of retention and persistence efforts that are driven by student's needs in high risk courses. The coordinator will engage in strategic planning to grow the SI program, including facilitating ongoing intensive training sessions of peer SI program leaders; overseeing recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and scheduling; and supervising and regularly evaluating SI leaders. The coordinator schedules all university-wide SI learning
assistance activities and monitors and assesses the effectiveness of the SI program, including conducting student surveys, tracking usage and progress reports, and providing impact analyses.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as overall SI program coordinator: selecting, training, scheduling, and mentoring SI leaders; plans and facilitates regular SI leader trainings and meetings; provides on-site supervision of SI leaders; observes and evaluates SI leaders' study and tutoring sessions and provides guidance on use of facilitation and learning strategies and collaborative learning techniques; collaborates with faculty and campus partners offering SI-supported courses and resources; promotes SI program for current and incoming students, faculty, staff, and campus partners.
  • Monitors SI program implementation and gathers and analyzes all data associated with SI program (e.g., SI attendance, student progress and grade reports, SI attendee feedback, etc.) to evaluate program and facilitate program growth; assists with developing reports for faculty, departments, administrators, and other campus stakeholders on SI program effectiveness.
  • Assists in designing additional learning support initiatives to include study skills workshops; helps facilitate training initiatives such as College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) tutor and study skills mentor trainings; develops professional development opportunities for SI leaders and Academic Success Center student employee staff as needed.
  • Represents the ASC at student, staff, and faculty orientations; participates in outreach initiatives hosted by campus partners; attends and serves on campus meetings as deemed appropriate within scope of role and SI program responsibilities.
  • Assists with oversight of daily operations of the ASC, providing on-site staff supervision and office coverage as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree, with at least one year of experience in a student affairs or student personnel position; or a Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or Sports Recreation Administration. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement for this position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Education, educational leadership, or a field related to college student success, two years supporting college student success with at least one year in college learning assistance (e.g., SI leader, tutor, academic coach, peer mentor, etc.), Supplemental Instruction certification and/or training experience, experience supervising student employees.
