Supervisor, Maintenance & Grounds

PRIMARY FUNCTION:  The Supervisor, Maintenance and Grounds is responsible for the supervision of all Maintenance Crew and Grounds Crew personnel to ensure all buildings and grounds provide a safe and attractive environment for all Faculty, Staff, and Students.

Essential Functions

  • Hires, trains and manages the Maintenance Crew and Grounds Crew to ensure grounds and facilities are maintained.
  • Supervises and develops assigned staff
  • Provides staff with clear directions and priorities that emphasizes quality standards, service, morale building, and teamwork.
  • Sets specific goals for staff that align with the strategic business objectives.
  • Monitors and reviews performance of assigned personnel on a continuous (weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly) basis.
  • Develops and coaches assigned personnel to systematically assure the highest quality service.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of buildings and grounds preventative maintenance, checks, and services (PMCS) and improvement plans.
  • Checks work orders as they come in and assigns to appropriate staff.  Additionally follows up to ensure work is completed and closed out.
  • Assists in the inspection of environmental control systems (e.g. generators, lighting systems, water systems, septic/sewage systems, heating and cooling systems, and plumbing systems).

Marginal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains inventory of all maintenance and grounds equipment and orders for new supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Inspects and monitors all buildings and grounds equipment to ensure safe operations.

Additional Duties

  • Performs other duties as requested.
  • Identifies and prioritizes repairs and improvement projects.
  • Trains staff on safety and operational procedures and requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in management or related field, required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of maintenance experience required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required, or must be accomplished within 6 months of employment.
  • Excellent customer service skills to enhance interaction with employees, students, and visitors.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal/communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team effort.
  • Must possess strong attention to detail, good organizational skills with the ability to ensure accurate and timely reports.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of work control, inventory control, and equipment maintenance techniques, required.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with appropriate regulatory and safety requirements, required.

Working Conditions:

  • Winter and summer months may result in exposure to uncomfortably cool and warm conditions.
  • Occasionally lifting 50 pounds or more (1% – 32% of the time).
