Salary Range: $52,666 - $83,179/year - final salary based on experience

JOB DUTIES
Responsible for interviewing, selecting, training, counseling, and evaluating staff in the designated section of the Health Information Services Department.  Plan work assignments and schedules hours/days based upon the needs of the department.

Develop section leads to insure an effective continuum of leadership and functions. 

Formulate goals, action plans, policies and procedures, and job descriptions related to operational processes and process changes and monitors effectiveness of actions, providing feedback and modification as indicated.

Monitor department costs and overtime usage to ensure budget compliance, will report deviations, and will assist in developing action plans to correct budget variances.

Produce monthly, quarterly, annual and other reports on productivity, current activity levels, patient record requests with revenue, document imaging, physician completion rates, inpatient and outpatient audit activity.

Communicate routinely with department and administrative leadership as well as clinical and support departments within the hospital, patients, other hospitals, and physicians.

Serve as the resource for EMR applications and external systems within the HIM and Revenue Cycle departments.  This includes responsibility for testing and rollout of new versions/upgrades and builds on current EMR system to gain efficiencies.

Provide oversight for release of patient information activities to ensure accordance with HIPAA, state, federal and hospital guidelines to ensure security and confidentiality of all patient information. Performs regular audits of release of patient information and assists the Compliance office with investigations into potential variances in policies and procedures that may compromise patient confidentiality.

Coordinate document imaging operations to ensure accuracy and timeliness in record availability to ensure customer expectations are met and deliverables are fulfilled.  Assure HIMSS Level 7 requirements are monitored and incorporated into the daily processes and procedures.

Manage record storage activity to assure retention policies are followed for multiple paper and electronic record storage sites.

Audit information entered into the Master Person Index to determine duplicate records, inaccurate patient information, and after extensive research, correct information in the EMR systems and notify all other electronic systems in the organization of the corrected information.

Coordinate on site and off-site audits by external customers for HEDIS validation, insurance billing verification, clinical pertinence, provider profiles, and annual regulatory reviews.

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management, Finances, Business, Accounting, Nursing, or health-related profession, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is required.

 

Certification in Health Information Management or Revenue Cycle is required within one year; acceptable certifications include:

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)),
  • Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR)
