Supervisor, Health Information Management (On-Site)

Job Summary:

Responsible for the management of health information systems consistent with the medical, administrative, ethical, and legal requirements of the health care delivery system. Supervises and participates in the daily workflow of the Health Information Management Department.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

1.         Knowledge of State and Federal rules and regulations governing the release of health information inclusive of HIPAA and the Privacy Rule.

2.         Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology sufficient to review and develop processes used for health information management.

3.         Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) data analytics software and Electronic Medical Records.

4.         Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills - Ability to arrive at accurate conclusions and solutions by visualizing new potentials for daily operations.

5.         Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

6.         Ability to supervise staff and processes for their assigned area.


Job Duties:

1.         Oversees the maintenance of health information applications such as Epic, OnBase, Life Image, Mosaiq, Harmony, IDX, etc.

2.         Oversees the maintenance and retrieval of onsite and off-site paper medical records.

3.         Coordinates the day-to-day operations of Health Information to include analyzing, compiling, indexing, releasing, tumor registry, and retention medical records of patients.

4.         Maintains quality and efficiency for assigned areas through process improvement for the department.

5.         Tracks and reports HIM staff productivity for HIM metrics.

6.         Assists in preparation of information and correspondence regarding new HIM processes for distribution to Providers and Clinical Staff.

7.         Performs quality control of processes to ensure that all HIM activities are in accordance with established standards.

8.         Supervises and manages staff performing health information management functions in their assigned area.

9.         Responsible for review and approval of employee hours worked and leave requests in the time keeping application.

10.       Coordinates onboarding and training of new staff. Participates in the preparation of reports.

11.       Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education:

Associate degree in business or health care related field is preferred. Will accept experience in lieu of education

Experience:

Two (2) years of healthcare or health information management experience is required. Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.

Additional Licenses and Certifications:

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification is preferred.
