Job Title:    Summer Student Community Assistant (U005) – Student Clerical

Compensation
•    $9.00/hr
•    Summer Room and Board
•    Successful candidates may choose to attend summer school at their own expense

Hours/Week
•    Summer average, 30-40 hours per week (Minimum required hours per week: 30)
•    Required hours include weekends, evenings, overnights, and holidays
•    Required on-call rotation 
•    Required to live-in assigned double occupancy room for the duration of the conference season
•    It is expected no more than 1 summer course per module will be taken, and no additional employment is permitted
•    Start date: May 6, 2024

Job Description
The primary role of the Community Assistant position is to deliver direct customer experiences to ensure a successful program activity. The goal of this position is to give students valuable real-world experience in a customer service environment. The Community Assistant position should work 30-40 hours per week during the summer. Those hours may be worked in any combination, at the discretion of the direct supervisor, the Staffing Assistant. The Community Assistant position must be reliable, organized, responsible, and flexible. They must also be ambitious, detail-oriented, creative, and driven. 

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of University Residences office processes and have had some customer service experience.

Qualifications
•    High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one semester of college coursework completed
•    Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University, Purdue University Global, or a local accredited college 
•    Previous work experience within University Residences preferred
•    Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
•    Flexible and dependable with strong attention to detail
•    Problem solving, logic, and reasoning skills
•    Customer service oriented
•    Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
•    Ability to work independently and with a team
•    Be timely and organized


Position Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities
•    Participate in summer employee program training
•    Fulfill on-call responsibilities as part of a scheduled rotation
•    Use a room management system to properly check participants in and out of their rooms
•    Organize participant keys and conference/meal cards before each group’s arrival
•    Conduct nightly interior and exterior safety rounds for all buildings within the assigned zone 
•    Affix all participant door decorations for each program
•    Prepare hall bulletin boards on each floor with pertinent safety and hall information
•    Attend/assist with all check-ins/check-outs; ensure check-in area is set up 1 hour prior
•    Distribute pertinent event information to conference attendees and summer residents
•    Attend regular staff meetings 
•    Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive personal information
•    Bodily fluid cleanup
•    Report job hazards to the zone management team, respond to emergencies, complete Incident Reports or other appropriate documents as needed
•    Report policy violations and/or University Residence regulation policy 
•    Provide coverage at multiple hall main offices. 
•    Exhibit friendliness, diplomacy, and tact when responding to customers
•    Manage emergencies and prioritize responsibilities while providing quality customer service
•    Complete and submit repair requests online as needed
•    Accountable for proper handling and security of all issued keys, safe access, and hall property
•    Exemplify promptness, initiative, adaptability, high ethical standards, professional appearance, and demeanor as part of the conference team.
