      Position Description:

      Upward Bound Math and Science is a federally funded program with the goal of increasing the number of youth who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education. UBMS provides academic enrichment, retention services, post-secondary preparation, and a summer residential program to low-income and first-generation students. The goal of the program is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science while providing a fun, exciting summer experience to our students!
      We are looking for passionate individuals to join our team as a Summer Residence Hall Coordinator! Students attend our program for 5 weeks on campus and 1 week on a Classroom on the Road trip! Staff live in the dorms and supervise students to help them experience what life is like in college. Summer Residence Hall Coordinators will be provided housing for the entirety of the summer program on campus, as well as provided meals during the scheduled programming.


      Dates:


      Summer Residence Hall Coordinator Training: May 22nd, 2024 - May 25th, 2024
      Summer Staff Training: May 28th, 2024 - May 31st, 2024
      Summer Residential Program: June 2nd, 2024 - July 12th, 2024


      Responsible for the direct supervision of residence hall staff (Summer Program Assistants), who are responsible for supervising approximately 25 high school scholars. Additional responsibilities include responds to emergency situations; resolves issues amongst students and staff; assists with participant check-in/check-out; relays questions/calls from parents to permanent staff when needed; maintains daily record of absent/ill students; ensures packages and mail are delivered to students; monitors participants behavior while on campus and participating in program activities; lives in the residence hall and is available at all times when participants are in the residence hall; assists with administrative duties as assigned; attends and assists with staff training during orientation week, prior to program; attends all required pre- and in-service training sessions and staff meetings; transports and accompanies sick scholars to medical appointments; facilitates regular residence hall staff meetings; signs students in/out; dispenses student's medications; performs summer food service check-off; and performs other duties as assigned.

      Required Qualifications:

      Required qualifications include an undergraduate student, graduate student, or person with bachelor's degree; sensitivity and awareness of program participants; enjoys being in the company of high school students; ability to live in on campus and participate for the entirety of the summer program; willingness and ability to support high school student's academics, recreation, physical, and emotional wellbeing; energetic and positive personality; and patient, reliable, punctual, and have good communication skills. Also must have a valid driver's license on file.

      Desirable Qualifications:

      Experience working with residential programs; and one year of experience working with underrepresented students preferred.
