Overseeing the daily operations of residence halls for over 20 unique programs, including our Five-Week Program, you'll cater to a diverse group of artists exploring their interests in music and dance. During the summer, Berklee hosts approximately 20 small programs and one large five-week program. The primary population is minors ranging from 15-18 years of age, which results in specific training in working with minors. This also includes almost daily contact with parents.
Essential Responsibilities Include:
Assisting with the overall administration and daily operation of on campus residence halls
Developing and overseeing an efficient system for managing the Summer Programs' activities budget and reviewing, approving, or denying Residence Hall events planned by Resident Assistants
Providing direction to the Summer Programs staff regarding occupancy reports, no-show verification, damage billing, opening and closing, assignments, health and safety inspections, and other operational functions
Working directly with hall staff to approve and process all room trades
Managing the housing assignment process for all summer programs
Assisting in coordinating all special interest housing assignments
Serving as an escalation contact for students and parents with housing concerns
Assisting the Director of Summer Programs Student Life in documenting all major processes
Following up on open work orders and the status of ongoing facilities concerns
Staff Supervision and Training of Resident Assistant Staff
Providing orientation, training, supervision, and regular evaluation of 12-18 Summer Programs staff members
Conducting weekly meetings with Summer Programs Assistant Resident Directors (SPARDs) and Summer Programs Assistant Managers (SPAMs) to develop and review goals/outcomes achieved, discuss issues, recognize contributions, provide and solicit feedback
Assessing skills and development of SPARDs and SPAMs while providing experiences, opportunities, and training to support their development
Attending all departmental and divisional training sessions and workshops, as required. This may include planning and facilitating training sessions for the hall and department as a whole.
Residential Education
Promoting the holistic development of students as a partner in the academic mission of the institution
Overseeing event planning in collaboration with Summer Programs Assistant Managers
Assisting with the training of Resident Assistants on Residential Curriculum and assist in the development of educational strategies
Supporting Resident Assistants in the design, execution, and assessment of educational strategies
Crisis Intervention
Serving on the Senior on Call rotation, providing 24/7 coverage during each shift
While on call, maintaining a 10-minute response time for the entire campus
Following protocol when responding to incidents
Providing appropriate follow-up to incidents
Acting as the college representative during non-business hours
Responding to incidents that involve any Berklee student and/or guests
Serving as the Primary on Call as needed for staff retreats and trainings
Facility Management
Conducting weekly building walk-throughs and report facility/safety concerns
Managing room condition reports
Submitting work orders in a timely manner
Working with Physical Plant/Facilities staff to resolve maintenance issues, incidents of vandalism, and schedule routine maintenance improvements
Inspecting rooms at the beginning, during, and end of the summer, billing for damages when residents move out
Providing insight and reports on future building needs
Working collaboratively with the Housing and Residential Operations team
Student Conduct
Hearing cases for the entire student population, as assigned by the Director of Summer Programs Student Life
Participating in regular meetings to discuss cases
Adjudicating and sanctioning students in violation of any policies
Maintaining timely and accurate judicial records
Departmental and Divisional Involvement
Attending and participating in all professional staff training
Collaborating with other departmental and university offices, such as Public Safety, Counseling Center, Student Activities, Diversity and Inclusion, as needed
Representing Summer Programs at on campus and off campus events
Representing the department at various functions such as BRASS Day, Opening Day, recruitment events, etc.
Participating with other department staff in the development and review of department policies, procedures, goals, and objectives
Working with other department staff on processes and projects, such as resident room selection, move-in and move-out, and system-wide programs
Knowledge and Skills Required
Experience in college student or minor supervision, residential life, judicial affairs, orientation, or student activities
Excellent administrative, as well as written and oral communication skills are required
Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
Creativity, self-motivation, and ability to work in groups as well as independently
Ability to manage projects, delegate tasks, and provide excellent customer service
Positive attitude
