Note to Applicants: Prior housing experience is not required.

Required dates are 05/06/24 to 07/31/24, with a one-week vacation to be determined.

Applicant must understand that the Summer Operations Manager position cannot be easily translated into hours worked per day or week because of the unique nature of working in residence halls. The position requires a genuine personal commitment, flexibility, and an open understanding of the unpredictable nature of the work. (Note: Compensation includes monthly salary + on-campus housing.)


Job Summary: The Summer Operations Summer Manager will be part of a diverse and energetic team in the department of Housing and Residential Communities.

This leadership position serves an integral role in guest relations, customer service, summer operations, facilities management, and administrative tasks for a diverse group of attendees as well as new freshman orientation and summer school. The Summer Operations Manager will serve as a representative of The University of Alabama for thousands of students. Hospitality, willingness to serve, and ability to work in a team environment is a must.

By upholding to the standards expected of this position, a personal commitment to serve and willingness to maintain flexibility, the compensation and benefit package includes a minimum of $1,000.00/month and free summer on-campus housing (furnished w/ utilities and internet services).


Additional Department Summary: Coordinates training and schedule for assigned staff. Conducts individual meetings (1:1) with student staff as needed. Sets and communicates with student staff expectations and goals for the community. Holds student staff accountable for community expectations and goals. Provides a high level of customer service to guests by fostering positive interactions between staff members and guests. Treats students, parents, guests, groups, and staff colleagues with courtesy and respect. Responds to all questions, inquiries, and comments efficiently and effectively. Assists with emergency coverage of the Area Desk as necessary. Coordinates linen preparation and distribution as needed. Serves as a role model to groups and guests. Dresses appropriately for the position at all times including while on-call. Adheres to and enforces all UA policies, HRC policies, and UA Student Code of Conduct. Maintains confidentiality regarding private or personal information of students, parents, groups, staff, and departmental needs. Performs on-call duties as outlined by HRC summer operations. Serves on-call during holidays, as necessary, due to residence halls remaining open. Staffs the area desk as assigned during on-call shifts. Sends daily report to supervisor. Assists with emergency preparedness responses. Documents incidents appropriately and in a timely manner. Oversees preparation of area keys and documentation for opening and closing. Ensures rooms are ready for opening and closing. Ensures proper check in/out for residents, guests, and groups. Ensures inventory and damage reports for the assigned area are completed. Coordinates updating transition materials as needed or end of summer reports. Regularly present in the building and community. Knows all assigned groups. Provides high-level of service. Serves as a resource to the campus as needed.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Ability to take part in the provided mandatory training that begins on 05/06/24. Ability to work 05/06/24 – 07/31/24. Ability to work nights, weekends, and on-call rotations.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Students taking summer classes are not eligible for this position.


Skills and Knowledge: Ability to set direction and help staff perform their job functions by providing motivation to accomplish organizational goals. Ability to foster an encouraging work environment to maintain a pleasant and efficient team. Ability to be the forefront of customer service and maintain the high standards expected of a championship program. Ability to act cooperatively and coordinate efforts with peers to create a welcoming environment for all groups and guests. Ability to convey a positive environment. Ability to complete paperwork, tasks, and related details associated with summer operations in a timely manner.


Preferred Qualifications: Education or experience in guest relations or hospitality (events, guest services, hosting).


Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
