Work Schedule Summary
Position is expected to start 5/20/24 and end 7/26/24.
Maximum of 400 hours (10 weeks), 40 hours per week. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. No work will be performed on the following University of Idaho observed holidays – Memorial Day (May 27), Juneteenth (June 19) and Independence Day (July 4).

Responsibilities


Job Duty Function Perform summer internship by:
Job Duties/Responsibilities
• Assisting with summer programs (specifically for gardening) with youth and adult groups.
• Leading educational gardening workshops for youth and adults.
• Providing support for “Pest Friends” project and other educational programs within the Blaine County Extension Office.
• Assisting in soil sampling and meeting local farmers.
• Assisting in collaboration with local organizations in preparation, harvesting, packing, and distributing produce.
• Preparing an internship experience final report and submitting to the UI Extension Director at the conclusion of the internship.

Position Qualifications


Required Qualifications
• Must have completed a minimum of 12 credits within the last year (these 12 credits may come from high school dual enrollment credits) and are currently enrolled at one of the following eight Idaho public universities or colleges (private Idaho universities or colleges do not qualify). Priority will be given to University of Idaho student applicants.

•  Must provide own transportation and have the ability to travel to multiple work sites. University will follow applicable policies if personal vehicle is used, which may include reimbursement at a pre-established rate.  
Preferred Qualifications
• Completed coursework in Plant Science or other relevant subject areas.
• Experience and/or interest in gardening.
• Outgoing and comfortable working with the public and volunteers (youth and adults).
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
• Team player and works well with others.
• Enjoys working with youth of all ages.
• Enjoys working in a variety of settings and environments with diverse audiences.
• Experience using social media, responding to email, and communicating through UI webpages and Facebook.
