Work Schedule Summary
Position is expected to start 5/28/2024 and end 8/2/2024.
Maximum of 400 hours (10 weeks), 40 hours per week. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. No work will be performed on the following University of Idaho observed holidays – Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 4).

Responsibilities


Job Duty Function Perfom summer internship duties by:
Job Duties/Responsibilities
• Becoming familiar with local food system education, programs and markets.
• Assisting at weekday and mobile farmers markets serving low income and underserved community members.
• Identifying partners and resources for hunger assistance in the Treasure Valley.
• Assisting with education and outreach for SNAP (food stamp) redemption at Farmers Markets in Idaho.
• Promoting and measuring the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables among the general public shopping at Farmers Markets.
• Assisting with data collection at area Farmers Markets through Rapid Market Assessments.
• Assisting home gardeners with fresh produce donations in their communities.
• Preparing an internship experience final report and submitting to the UI Extension Director at the conclusion of the internship.

Position Qualifications


Required Qualifications
• Must have completed a minimum of 12 credits within the last year (these 12 credits may come from high school dual enrollment credits) and are currently enrolled at one of the following eight Idaho public universities or colleges (private Idaho universities or colleges do not qualify). Priority will be given to University of Idaho student applicants.

North Idaho College
•  Must provide own transportation and have the ability to travel to multiple work sites. University will follow applicable policies if personal vehicle is used, which may include reimbursement at a pre-established rate.  
Preferred Qualifications
• Completed coursework in Agriculture, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Education, Food Systems or other relevant subject areas.
• Outgoing and comfortable working with the public and volunteers.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
• Experience working in retail or service industry.
• Enjoys working in a variety of settings and environments with diverse audiences.
• Experience in creating and distributing digital media and communications.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Willing and able to work out of doors several times per week in hot weather.
