Job Summary
Serves as a temporary, full-time informal teacher for K-12 summer camp students. Counselors help implement basic content knowledge and skills in marine and aquatic sciences to stimulate an appreciation for Gulf resources.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Counselors have completed at least one full-time academic year of college (minimum 24 credit hours). 1 year of experience in childcare, after school care, or Summer camp counselor. All applicants over 18 years of age must pass a federal background check. Ability to complete CPR and First Aid certification (training provided upon hire).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Adept in Microsoft Office
- Capable of standing, squatting, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. on a daily basis.
- Capable of withstanding extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to create and manage effective learning environments (physical space, materials, activities, classroom management).
- Skill in managing one’s own time and the time of others.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse group of people.
Preferred Qualifications
Completed courses in Biology (and/or other related sciences). CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred. Completed courses in Biology (and/or other related sciences). CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred.
