The University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites resumes for a full-time, exempt position. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
 
The Summer Bridge Coordinator for the First Year Experience (FYE) ensures that all elements of CAAS’s FYE program are completed and delivered as well as possible. A successful candidate will have experience and demonstrated success in working with college level students and in developing and coordaining student academic programs and activities. The Summer Bridge Coordinator of FYE reports to the Director or Assistant Director as directed.
Responsibilities
  • Assist Coordinator for FYE develop first-year events and programs, handle all communications, logistics, and marketing for the Summer Bridge Program.
  • Support the FYE course, assist with course materials and online resources for instructors.
  • Carry out first-year student and first year students; participation and progress.
  • Based on qualifications, may run or help run programs.
  • Program planning for student engagement.
  • Group and one-on-one student advising.
  • Create academic improvement plans with students on academic probation.
  • Assist in the design and preparation for New Hawk Day (New Student Orientation).
  • Help to plan and organize course preloading (block scheduling as needed).
  • Coordinate and plan for Summer Bridge programming and activities.
  • Create and analyze student surveys.
  • Prepare written reports to evaluate program success and track student progress.
  • Collaborate across the university to connect students to campus resources.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, student development, or related field.
  • Two years’ experience in a position supporting student events, activities, advising, counseling, or mentoring.
  • Knowledge of current issues in student retention best practice and case management.
  • Experience working with academic support, initiatives programs and with special populations, such as first-generation college students, limited-income students, and students from racially underrepresented backgrounds, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.

  • Effective decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective human services skills such as coaching, mentoring, and advising/counseling.
  • Effective team-player skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to function within the culture of and HBCU and work with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Proficient use of computer systems and a variety of academic software applications such as PeopleSoft, Starfish, Banner, ALEKS testing systems, as well as features of the Microsoft Office Suite, etc
