Summer Assistant Housefellow Intern, Residential Education – Division of Student Affairs

Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Residential Education is searching for a Summer Assistant Housefellow to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. Housefellows are principal contributors to the residential student experience and coordinate key critical initiatives within Residential Education that serve the broader student experience while working with campus-wide programmatic initiatives designed to enhance student development.

Encompassing more than a traditional residence life position, the Housefellow's role involves serving as students' primary metacurricular advocate at the university while enhancing their social, academic, intellectual, artistic and personal development.


Core responsibilities include:

  • Convene RA for weekly Staff meeting

  • RA team will meet at the end of finals to start planning the summer schedule of events and talk about responsibilities

  • Meet weekly to discuss programming and any issues that might be occurring

  • Communicate with staff about any building issues

  • Help facilitate any purchasing that needs to happen

  • Help facilitate students moving into summer assignment (rolling process) for Session 1 & 2

  • Do a room audit for Summer session 1 & 2

  • Help facilitate move-out for session 1 & 2

  • Help housing address any facility issues

  • Student issues over the summer are handled by Student affairs on-call and either the previous or upcoming student affairs contact person

  • This summer HF would only help navigate any community impact

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED Required

  • 1-2 years of experience working in Housing and/or Residence Life required

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.


Additional Information:

  • Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.

  • Hours: this role is a 30 hour per week position for 10 weeks from mid-May through early-August
