Organization Summary: 

The University of South Florida (USF) Institute of Applied Engineering (IAE) provides agile, best-value engineering solutions to enhance the performance, effectiveness of its sponsors, including the Department of Defense, other federal, state, and local agencies, and industry. These engineering solutions include hardware-and-software-based research, advanced technology development, prototypes, and technical services.

USF IAE has begun a project based on findings and successful experiments from a previous project. The purpose of this follow-on project is regarding room-temperature quantum processor and quantum optical wireless communication systems. 

USF IAE is seeking a graduate student for a summer appointment (13 weeks).

DUTIES:

Theoretical research or experimental implementation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related majors, at an accredited University with an accumulated GPA above 3.0.

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidates shall be interested in quantum information engineering (computing, communication, sensing)?and satisfy at least one of the following conditions: 

  • This position is only open to active USF students at this time. 
  • Taking a graduate level course (or more) in quantum mechanics, quantum communications, quantum computing, quantum algorithms, quantum cryptography, or related in electrical engineering, physics, computer science, or mathematics, with grade A- or better. 
  • Having one (or more) publication related to quantum technologies. 
  • Knowledge and/or experimental skills in optics, quantum photonics, integrated photonics, or other room-temperature quantum technologies. 
  • Hands-on with FPGA, embedded processors, digital logic design, and firm ware.  
  • Further knowledge in computer aided design for logic synthesis, computer architecture, machine learning, or experimental physics, is a plus.

Special Requirements 

  • This position is funded by a Department of Defense contract and requires US citizenship. 

Time Commitment: 

  • This appointment is scheduled for Summer 2024 
  • The time commitment is maximum of 29 hours per week for the summer semester.  
  • In-person working on campus; however, online working is possible in exceptional situations.  

Opportunities: 

  • Hands-on experience in ground-breaking quantum computing, communication, and information engineering.
